Lance Vance & Ken Rosenberg: GTA Vice City's Worst Guides

Lance Vance & Ken Rosenberg: GTA Vice City's Worst Guides

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is still a rockstar’s best action game. We see in this also elements of RPG which play well in the character development. At the same time however two fall short of what they are to bring to the table. Characters of Lance Vance and Ken Rosenberg do a poor job at guiding through the 1980s scene.

Why Tour Guides Matter in GTA Games

Good guides which which is to say that also help to present the game world, they put out that which is useful and what may be classified as missions. In Vice City we have great characters. However there are also those which I find disappointing in terms of performance out of these two Lance and Ken.

The Role of Supporting Characters

Supporting characters which make up your in game experience they are there to help you advance. Also some will provide you with vehicles and weapons. Also they may give out key missions.

What Makes a Good Game Guide

A good guide is one that keeps the gameplay smooth. At the drop of a hat they appear when you need them. Also they give you advice which in turn helps you to win. They also bring in an element of fun with their personality.

Lance Vance: The Backstabbing Buddy

Lance Vance in to play the role of Tommy Vercetti’s partner. At first it looks very promising. What transpires is a let down.

His Failed Leadership

Lance is very familiar with Vice City. At the same time he is also the one that constantly requires rescue. Also his poor choices bring up more issues than they solve.

Constant Need for Help

Players put off completing their missions for Lance. He drags out the tasks. In terms of useful info he provides, not much. Also his combat is very poor.

His Ultimate Betrayal

The bottom line is that which time Lance does turn against Tommy it proves how poor of a guide he is. He is to blame for leading players into the ground.

Ken Rosenberg: The Nervous Wreck

Ken is the attorney for Tommy, which means he can help and support him in all things legal, instead he is a constant issue. Ken’s role in legal issues is to help, but with Ken it is a different story, he is instead a cause of continuous trouble. Ken who is put in place to give legal advice, is at instead is a source of persistent problems for Tommy. Ken is supposed to be supportive in a legal capacity but out does that into a lot of issues and trouble. Ken is supposed also not play a hand in issues and resolution of legal matters instead he is what we are having to deal with as a series of messes. Ken which is what we look to to have our back in terms of legal things is instead causing us a great amount of trouble. Ken is there for legal stuff, rather he is the source of an ever present problem. (First I’m to get a solid lawyer, second I don’t want that person to be Ken as the first step, which has been tried, did not go well and my problem still exists) My first attempt to sort out a proper legal representative did not pan out that person turned out to be the problem. I am back to square one looking for the right fit and so far Ken is not it, which is the problem. Ken was the first choice to clean up the legal mess we are in, and what do we get, more mess from him. I am putting out a new call for that ideal legal professional and crossing my fingers Ken is not that person. I picked Ken to clean our legal records, and what we got was more of the same. I am out again looking for a true professional and Ken is not on the short list of candidates. I thought we had a shot with Ken, but he added to the long list of legal issues we have. I’ve ran with Ken for the legal solutions we need but what I got was blow after blow. Out I go again to find that which Ken is not. I looked to Ken for legal answers but what I found was a large scale issue creator. Out I go once more in the search for the real deal and Ken is left out..

His Panic Attacks

Ken is very much a worrywart. Also he doesn’t put forth much in the way of useful legal advice. As for his missions they are of the clean up his own mess variety.

Poor Decision Making

Every step Ken takes makes things worse. He puts out one issue after another for players to solve. Also he fails at being a legal advisor.

His Useless Connections

Ken is full of himself with his stories of contacts. Also they don’t really help players at all. What he has for social connections is just more crime.

Comparing Other GTA Guides

In other GTA games we see improved guides. This is a sign that Lance and Ken fall short.

Better Guides in Vice City

Characters such as Umberto Robina are the best. His quests are engaging. Also his personality is a great addition which doesn’t bring in frustration.

Great Guides in Other Games

GTA San Andreas has a great set of guides. Also The Truth does a great job which is very much to my enjoyment his advice is at once practical and entertaining.

The Sports and Racing Perspective

Even in sports which include racing, Lance and Ken fall short, also they do not put forth any useful tips or support.

Their Racing Advice

Lance’s advice on which way to go is very poor. Also his suggested routes tend to be longer. And he doesn’t put much thought into his vehicle choices.

Sports Missions Problems

Ken is into sports related missions which do bring trouble. He is into fixing betting issues in sports. Also they do not cover sports mechanics.

Multiplayer Potential Wasted

These characters’ roles in the multi player modes could have been better utilized. Their concepts put forth design which had more to offer.

Possible Co-op Missions

Lance may have been in co-op. In this game he is only in single player mode which is different. Also his AI is poor as a teammate.

Multiplayer Strategy Void

Neither do these characters bring anything to the multiplayer experience. They don’t have any clan based strategies. Also their skills don’t translate online.

Simulation of Bad Leadership

The game is of a design which includes bad partners. This may be intentional. Also it frustrates the players.

Realistic Flaws

Characters present with real world flaws. But in the end that doesn’t break the game. Also annoying guides at which point it just ruins the experience.

Learning From Mistakes

Players are introduced to what bad behavior looks like. They see which traits in an ally are not valuable. In later games we saw improvement in that.

Casual Gaming Perspective

Casual players are the biggest issue. We see that they require in depth guides. Also in regards to Lance and Ken they completely fail.

New Player Confusion

Beginners require simple directions. These characters do not provide. In fact their missions are confusing.

Pacing Problems

These sections have these characters in them. They break up the fun pace of Vice City. Casual players lose interest.

Adventure Gone Wrong

Vice City is great for crime adventures but some of the characters fall flat.

Mission Design Issues

Their missions are very much the same. We see the same things over and over. Also character development is much better in other games.

Story Interruptions

As soon as they arise the action in the story grinds to a halt. Key plot points come to a standstill. We have to see them work out their small problems.

Conclusion: Guides Who Guide Wrong

Lance Vance and Ken Rosenberg do a poor job as Vice City guides. They don’t help players out at all. Their missions are a chore. Other characters do that better. Rockstar improved on this in later games. Vice City is still a fun game despite them.
