Slimy Soulslike Review: Not the Cute Dark Souls Alternative

Slimy Soulslike Review: Not the Cute Dark Souls Alternative

I was looking for a cute casual take on the Souls like games when I picked this up. What I got was a mess. This game attempts to do what Dark Souls did but does it very poorly.

What Is a Soulslike Game?

Soulslikes fall into the action adventure RPG category. They replicate Dark Souls’ tough battles and check point systems. Some focus on multi player. Others are single player like this one.

Why People Love Soulslikes

Fans love the challenge. The strategy keeps them coming back. Good Souls’ formula is to put in tough battles but also to award fair progress.

First Impressions of the Game

At first the film showed great promise. It had brilliant color in the animation which made it look very casual. But we hit issues very fast.

Bad Controls Ruin the Action

Moving was a problem which made things get stuck at times, attacks failed against what they should have hit and jumping around was also an issue, out of the players control really and it made for very frustrating fights.

Confusing RPG Systems

Upgrades were not well explained. Stats didn’t really mean anything. The simulation of in depth elements was a let down.

Gameplay Problems

The poor performing Soulslike in very basic aspects. What happened?

Unfair Difficulty Spikes

Regular enemies killed me in one fell swoop. Bosses had confusing attack patterns. This wasn’t hard it was broken.

Boring Level Design

Areas were very similar. No secrets or shortcuts. Repetitive very early on.

Multiplayer Missed Opportunities

The box claimed support for online co but it was mostly a failure. We had issues with lag which made it so we could not race through levels.

Good Ideas, Bad Execution

Some concepts were great. The art style did what no one had seen before. But the game play was so poor it ruined it all.

Conclusion

This put out in the same vein as Dark Souls is not fun. It poorly imitates the Dark Souls formula. Actions don’t feel right. RPG elements are out of place. Multiplayer is a let down.

FAQs

No. It is too difficult and confusing. I am out to try a different RPG.

2. Does it have multiplayer?

Yes, also it doesn’t work well. Don’t get it for co-op.

3. How long is the adventure?

Around 10 hours. But in some cases that same frustration will make you give up before time.

Many other similar options out there. Try the popular ones first.
